Being supported by our local community Walmart is such a wonderful feeling. We got the announcement from the Spark Good Grants Team that our local Walmart Superstore #4355, located in Taylor, AZ., had recommended us for approval of a grant in the amount of $1500. Yesterday, those funds were given to us and we are so very, very appreciative.
We currently house 40 horses, donkeys, mini donkeys and mini mules at the rescue, and we have 2 horses in foster/training. Here at the rescue we want to ensure they have enough shelter from the elements. We have a large barn that has 7 interior stalls, but that is not enough. Money from this grant will go to create another shelter out in the pastures away from the barn.
We will be choosing a location and getting ready to construct another shelter similar to the one we built last year during a Volunteerism Always Pays event hosted by the rescue with volunteers from the Taylor, AZ., Walmart Superstore, pictured here. Providing shelter from the harsh winter snows, spring rains and summer monsoons makes such a difference to the health of all the animals here.
As a 100% volunteer organization, we have no staff or paid employees, we are so happy that donations we receive go directly to the care of the animals at the rescue and what is needed to keep them healthy and happy.
Grant opportunities are so limited for anything equine related and certainly funds we cannot depend on receiving. Most grants applied for do not get approved because SO many organizations are applying for the same funds. That makes this all the more special to us!
We are feeling very blessed!!!!
